Our Teachers
CATHERINE MUNRO (EYRT)
Catherine began practicing yoga in 1989 while living in New York City. She spent several years exploring different yoga traditions with many master teachers, notably in the Iyengar tradition. Her exploration led to her passion for the Ashtanga practice, which she learned under the guidance of senior teachers Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty. She has also studied with Ashtanga guru Sri. K. Patthabhi Jois in Mysore, India.
Catherine was trained to teach at YogaWorks in Santa Monica, California, by the Teacher Training program creators Maty Ezraty and Lisa Walford. After teaching for YogaWorks for several years she began leading Teacher Trainings for YogaWorks in 2003. She continues to lead teacher trainings for YogaWorks internationally.
Catherine’s vinyasa based classes focus on physical alignment and intelligent sequencing, and are infused with passion and inspiration for the practice of yoga. Catherine combines a tough-minded approach with genuine compassion and caring for the individual student. Her hope is that through the practice, students can learn to transition through some of life’s challenges with strength and introspection.
TONI DUNNE
Toni is a keen student of life. When she's not bombing down a mountain on a snowboard, tending to her vegetable garden or creating delicious creations in her kitchen, you'll probably find her on her yoga mat.
A student of yoga for over 12 years, Toni has explored many styles, methods and traditions - taking from each a greater understanding of the all encompassing power of yoga to transform and inspire. She began her teaching career in 2009 having successfully completing her training through YogaWorks. Toni's style envelopes the dynamic flowing movement of Ashtanga yoga, while incorporating a more detailed approach to alignment (often through the use of props) and exploration through modified postures.
Toni's passion for teaching is evident in her enthusiastic approach. Through the years, yoga has a remained a constant presence in her life. It is a place to return, an opportunity to connect to her self and to the universe, to feel alive, to simply breathe and to truly inhabit her body. She is forever delighted to be a part of the beautiful Comox Valley, and is grateful for the opportunity to give back to this supportive and inspiring community.
KRISTEN GILBERT
Kristen began her relationship with the art and science of yoga at the age of 20. She completed her 500-hour Ashtanga teacher training, along with five years of tutelage and assisting, with Ron Reid of Downward Dog in Toronto, Canada. Since then, her devotion to this practice has led her to study all over the world with many inspiring teachers - such as Eddie Modestini and Nicki Doane (Maya Yoga), Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty (Ashtanga and Iyengar), Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (Ashtanga), Matthew Sweeney (Ashtanga), John Scott (Ashtanga) and Aadil Palkivalha (Purna Yoga).
Kristen has been teaching for over 12 years, and infuses her vigorous vinyasa yoga classes with Tantric philosophy, music, humour and play. Having recently completed her Masters in Occupational Therapy, she integrates detailed anatomical and functional knowledge into her perspective on inspired living. She also combines her love of raggae and hip hop music with yoga for some of her classes. Her latest avenue of exploration is to create yoga programs for stroke victims.
She considers yoga to be the greatest love of her life.
JACQUIE DAVIES
Jacquie first took to a yoga mat when she was training as a ballet dancer many years ago. In 1998, after leaving the dance theatre, she started practicing Ashtanga yoga with Mark Darby in Montreal. She has since studied Eastern philosophy and many different styles of yoga, including Iyengar, Bikram, Hatha and Yin. Jacquie’s classes are dynamic and often theme-based. She weaves principles of anatomy and subtle body into her yoga classes, so that students can deepen their understanding of the actions and benefits inherent within each posture.
Jacquie is also a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and Bowen Therapist. She completed her first teacher training at Downward Dog Yoga Centre in Toronto, under the guidance of Ron Reid and Diane Bruni. Other trainings include a teacher intensive with Chuck Miller and Maty Ezraty and a yin certification with Mark Laham. Jacquie is grateful for all the wonderful people she has met within the yoga community and embraces the experience of learning alongside her students.
